10 Stylish Scandinavian Living Room İdeas

The living room is the widest room of the house, where both the households gather together and spend time together. Most of the living rooms share the same space as the dining room in the house and are also called salons. Halls, which function as a reception room, are the areas where the house is most carefully taken care of.

Decorating the living room can be a bit troublesome, but it's actually quite a fun because it is generous in terms of material and spiritual sense while decorating this area, and we try to make the best of it. Although the living rooms in our houses are of different sizes and different shapes, the same thing we aim when decorating these rooms is the same: a beautiful and comfortable living space with a stylish appearance and functional use.

While decorating our living room, we should make sure that our house is not separated from the style of the house, we must continue the same style from the house to the bedrooms. The key to making a good decoration is not to create a style chaos.

What is Scandinavian style?

Scandinavian style is a design style in which simplicity is at the forefront, where white color and wood surfaces are used intensively, giving utmost importance to functionality. This movement, which emerged in the middle of the 1950s, forms the basis of modernism and functionalism (functionalism), which aims to ensure that everyday things that are beautifully presented and offer functional use are not only accessible by the wealthy but by all.

In the ideological background of the Scandinavian style, there was the Scandinavian type of social democracy that emerged after World War II, as well as the spread of low-cost materials and mass production. The Scandinavian style does not reflect a certain period, like some other styles; It represents a style that has been developing and changing since the 1930s.

It was found in the 50s by the recognition of Scandinavian style as a current. The Scandinavian style with modern style is often confused with one another, since it has quite similar features and many common designs. In the 50s, when Scandinavian style was recognized, the midcentury modern was quite popular and many of the Nordic-based architects and designers made modern-style products. In short, both styles were fed from each other during the period they became widespread, but the Scandinavian style continued to develop and update itself.

The most commonly used materials in Scandinavian style furniture, like modern style; wood, plywood, molded plastic, pressed steel and aluminum. On the wooden surfaces, light colored lacquers are generally preferred. Completely white surfaces are also frequently included. One of the differences between Scandinavian style and modern style is the color spectrum used in the decoration of the rooms.

The modern style avoids dark tones and the Scandinavian style prefers white surfaces. In the northern countries where the winter period lasted very long, it was aimed to create bright and spacious interiors.
