Bamboo House

Bamboo House

I've always associated bamboo with exotic places, and this beach house on the island of Mustique in the Caribbean is definitely the best and most extreme example of using this material indoors. Built by Swedish architect Arne Hasselqvist in the 1970s, the house was renovated by Veere Greeney, a London-based interior designer. Veere knew the island well when he bought this property because he had decorated many villas in that area. He wanted a house that reflects the spirit of Mustique, a charming and authentic island for casino lovers rather than nature lovers. The bamboo typical of the Grenadines (Saint Lucia and Grenada) islands, Veere Greeney was in mind, was the perfect material to achieve sheer aesthetics. The warm and golden hue of bamboo illuminates and completes other permissible colors, the bright green of the vegetation surrounding the villa. Bamboo sticks covering the ceilings also remind the texture of a natural fabric. Furniture, including bamboo, is available online or in Los Angeles and Miami and is mostly classic. The result is a natural nest that surely rests on the Mustique. All I'm going to add is vivid tropical prints to cover sofas, armchairs and cushions from red, blue, green and white, but the personalization is the beauty of the decoration.
