Interview with Vito Nesta

I have been following Vito Nesta for a few years now and her world has become familiar to me with her creativity. A familiar and exotic world, the clear result of numerous stimuli. Born in Puglia, graduated in Florence and adopted from Milan, Vito Nesta is an insatiable traveler who is one of those who live the concept of travel and want to explore travel. He may find inspiration on distant journeys or just wandering the streets of his hometown: the secret is to discover new things, curiosity will lead you to find something magical even in the corner. I gave him a little interview and Vito was a gentleman as usual. Your design, it reflects the many inspirations you've accumulated while traveling and an exotic image that glides over time. Do you have an inspiring picture, object, book or other archive? I have an extensive archive of materials from all my journeys. I love walking around markets, running out of markets, getting lost in the streets of an unfamiliar city, and I often come across old scrap sellers, old bookstores, and there, maybe shooting them, always finding great things. I also go to auctions where I buy old engravings, books and everything that affects me. Later, like my collection of Natsumi dishes for my Grand Tour brand, everything can inspire, reinterpret the decorations of an old wardrobe door. Which of your designs and projects do you like the most, why? I'm more or less fond of all of my projects because each of them has to tell me the story of the project itself.

But some gave me more satisfaction, and I'm more fond of them. However, I'm usually more committed to the latest projects because they require more attention as when a child is born. In your last exhibition “Travel Music. Vito Nesta, curated by Annalisa Rosso and backed by Bonaudo and located in the magnificent Giuseppe Verdi rooms of the Grand Hotel et de Milan, in the rooms of Giuseppe Verdi, you have yet to prove your precise color sensitivity. How did the idea of site-specific installations come about? After visiting the Grand Hotel and the Verdi room for the first time, about two years ago, I fell madly in love with that place. I promised myself that if I had to present my first personal show, it would be there and only there. The Grand Hotel is a place full of history, full of meaningful events marking its existence for more than one hundred and fifty years; many people passed and each one left a mark. "The Journey With Music" I have tried to tell some such dishes collections Grand Hotel de Milan Two canopical vases made by Ceramiche Gatti tell one of the two iconic statues of the hotel, one of which is Brazil The other is a dark statue dedicated to the abolition of slavery in Greece. Special colors produced by Bonaudo, a leather company in the production of high quality leathers that sponsor the entire project. "Travel Music" returned a part of the city without being transferred to the museum and presenting a new vision. What do you recommend to new designers? The advice I will give to the new designers is to have a lot of patience and perseverance. This work has become very, very difficult and it is not easy to get immediate results. The important thing is to set your goals and follow them by defending your dreams.
