Diederick Kraaijeveld is one of Fuori Salone's best discoveries. I was walking around Spazio Rossana Orlandi when I was caught by two beautiful wooden statues representing old New York water reservoirs. Two pieces of Rossana were hung in one of my favorite corners of Orlandi space. Unfortunately, I couldn't talk to the author, so when I could sit for a moment (a rare event during Milan Design Week), I contacted my cell phone to find something with a complicated name about this sculptor. Diederick Kraaijeveld (to see his own portrait at the end of the mission) travels around the world in search of the right pieces of wood, and then becomes parts that go into creating realistic figures. It produces various objects, people, iconic objects, machines and more in different sizes: some parts are very small, some large (such as All Star shoes), but all are equally detailed. I fell in love with the two water tanks I saw in Milan, the light elegantly leaning on various woods with emphasis on different shades and textures (see photo below). If you want to see more sculptures of Diederick Kraaijeveld, visit the Oudhout website.
